Johnson Qualifies for Re-Election

Marietta, GA (April 27, 2008) – State Representative Terry Johnson (HD-37), a six-year veteran of the Georgia House of  Representatives, qualified to run for re-election on Monday, April 28.

“The needs of our district are very unique, diverse and challenging,” said State Rep. Johnson. “Regional usage of the state’s natural resources, especially water, must be managed with responsibility and a conservation approach. Locally, we must continue to address long-range transportation planning and economic development in one portion of the district and infrastructure expansion in another portion.

“As state representative, I have always tried to be responsive to the constituents of House District 37, placing party politics and political posturing aside so that we can focus on resolving our challenges.”

A lifelong resident of District 37 and a fifth generation Cobb Countian, Rep. Johnson has been a commercial real estate broker for more than 30 years. He and his wife of 36 years, the former Nancy Bobell, are both Osborne High School alumni and have two sons.

Locally, Rep. Johnson’s announcement was received with great enthusiasm.

“Terry is a man of integrity and wisdom who represents our values. It takes courage and maturity to work in today’s political environment. It also takes the respect of your colleagues and citizens you represent. Terry Johnson has all of these qualities,” commented former Cobb County Commissioner Freeman Poole.

State Rep. Johnson serves on the Board of Trustees for Truett-McConnell College, a four-year Georgia Baptist institution, and he is also a founding member of the Osborne High School Foundation. Serving as director of the Cobb ARC, a non-profit agency formed in 1956 to provide for the needs of families who have children with mental retardation or other developmental disabilities, Rep. Johnson is currently a member of the Osborne High School Task Force. A former volunteer youth baseball coach at Milford Park, he is past president of the Osborne High School PTSA and Osborne's Track and Cross Country Booster Club.

An active participant in many civic organizations, Rep. Johnson is former president of the Milford Optimist Club. He has held positions on the Citizen's Advisory Committee, the EMC Credentials Committee and the Cobb Extension Advisory Board. A lifelong member of Milford Baptist Church, Rep. Johnson is currently a deacon and has also served as the church’s Chairman of Trustees and as a Sunday School teacher.

Terry Johnson first served Cobb County in the Georgia House of Representatives in 2000. He has held positions on many committees, including Children and Youth, Human Relations and Aging, Industrial Relations, Defense & Veterans Affairs and Natural Resources & Environment.
